Do you ever wonder if people like you?
I mean really, really like you (as Sally Fields might say)?
Sure you do.
We all do.
I mean, I know I do.
Oh, not all the time. Definitely not as much as when I was younger -- way back when, say, when I was 40 -- but the thought does cross my mind.
We all want to be liked. There's no shame in that – it’s just a good ol' human desire.
If we're not careful, though, focusing on whether or not we're "likable" enough can become a very limiting obstacle on our path to success...
"Oh, I couldn't do that... Everybodywould think I'm crazy!"
"I could do XYZ -- but those guys in Scheduling are really gonna think I'm an [euphemism for an unkind person here] if I do..."
"My parents really would not like that. They want me to study [law, medecine, science, etc.]..."
It's one thing to be considerate of others, their feelings, and opinions.
It's entirely another thing not to pursue your biggest dreams and goals
because you're worried about what other people will think of you, what they might say.
No matter what you do, some people will like you, some people won't.
Rather than waste time trying to change the minds of those who don't like you, live your life your way!
Until next time …. Live BIG!
